This weekend I went to the "Mile High Nationals. Air temp at 3:00 pm, 105. Track temp 150+. I was a guest of Gates Rubber Co, and the US Army. The first picture here is from the back of the US Army top fuel car pit. That's "The Sarge" himself packing his chute.
The next picture is a funny car doing a burn out.
The 3rd picture is of the Army team doing a test run of the engine. Notice the guys wearing gas masks? That's because nitromethane burns like tear gas!!!! Also notice the tables on the right side of the picture. That is where we sat and ate steak for lunch and watched the guys work on the car. We were under a big tent with fans blowing air on us and all the water and pop we wanted to drink for free. The next picture was of the back of the pit.
The last picture is my favorite. That is of me and "The Sarge". He is the driver of the Army car. His best run on Sunday was just over 323 mph. He was such a nice guy. He signed anything we asked of him and took pictures with us too. Some drivers are real jerks, not The Sarge, he was first class all the way. I will be a fan for life.
